I Made It To A Year!

Image
Happy 1st Year Natural  Its official, I'm a "Fro Lady"! I know I should have posted this a while ago, but I was buried in nappies and poo and pee everyday :). I'm a blessed woman, mom to another beautiful baby girl. I did the big chop last year with the absolute determination to stop applying any kind of chemicals on my scalp and I'm very happy I made it to more than a year now. At first, I had zero knowledge of how to take care of natural hair, then gradually it happened to be the easiest thing I ever done. How do I care for my new growth? The main products I use are unrefined Shea butter mixed with palm kernel oil which is just like coconut oil. Other stuff I occasionally add are: - Egg yokes - Essential eucalyptus oil - Avocado fruit As food, I would pick carrots and eat them raw, spinach, cucumbers and ... That works for me.  You can do it! What about my routine? My daily routine is to apply shea butter a...

Pregnancy Symptoms: "Heartburn"

Image
Many women get heartburn during pregnancy. Heartburn is a burning feeling in your stomach, sometimes rising up to your throat.  It occurs when the valve between the stomach and the food pipe (esophagus) are unable to prevent the stomach acids from passing back into the esophagus. Pregnancy can increase the frequency of heartburn because the hormone progesterone causes the valve to relax. This allows the stomach acid to pass into the esophagus and irritate the lining. How pregnant women feel about it?  "Pregnancy heartburn is seriously the worst and the STRUGGLE IS TOO REAL",  or "I've eaten too much again for lunch.... I have heartburn ... help! Worst thing about pregnancy has to be the heartburn!" and again "After this pregnancy, I hope I never, ever get heartburn again. EVER!" Even for women who have never experienced it before in their first pregnancy, heartburn may occur for the first time in their next ones while they are pregna...

To "Big Chop" or not to?

Image
It's snowing in Cape Town, so windy in Johannesburg and yet I've decided to "chop" that hair from my head and have no regrets at all since then :) How it all started I cut my hair (the first round) on November 2012 because after my two pregnancies my hair became a complete mess: "long, short, medium, kinky, dry, smooth..." I had all those kinds in one head and as it was not enough, my hair colour turned dark brown instead of remaining black. So, I got mad and remove all those mountains and "everests" and gave myself a good ride on equal plains with no valleys hehehe. Hold on! Watch the full video of my big chop by following this link:  "My Big Chop: "Relaxed to Natural Hair" 10 months later My hair later on grew equally and looked healthy but as I couldn't bear the pain when I had to comb the regrowths following the two relaxing phases I had in between, I started thinking it's maybe tim...

How to get rid of a "Runny Nose"?

Image
This might be a question worth $1 000 000 if you're also a victim of this disease often referred to as "What on earth have I done to deserve this?!" It's been more than 15 years now that me and my nose are constantly disagreeing on how to cope with: - Dust - Temperature changes  - Moisture - Pollen - House Mites - ... It's said there are two types of allergies: "non allergic and allergic". Guess what? I have them both.  Types of Allergies Wait, let me present the difference to you before we continue: - If you present an aggravating reaction to smoke for example or your nose respond to hormonal changes then you're a mate of "non allergic" buddies, this one being the most difficult to treat - If you constantly have hay fever or rhinitis instead, and react to things such as: latex, chemicals... you're suffering from the "allergic" type of runny nose nuisance. Shame! but don't worry that one, you...
